    Function overlayStageboxIds

    • Overlay each detected box with its registry identity — the stable boxId the console minted when the box enrolled — resolved from its recognition key. The same seam overlayStageboxNames occupies, for the same reason: one place, so every stagebox-producing path publishes the same identity.

The device carries the id rather than each surface building an address from the MAC, because a MAC is a wire address that outlives the box wearing it. Swapping two boxes between segments leaves every MAC-shaped address still valid and pointing at different hardware — the defect that moved an S-0808's input 8 onto the channel belonging to an S-1608 (2026-08-21). The key carries the same durability problem one level up if it is ever built from something as changeable as a MAC — it is not, today: stageboxKeyed builds it from the box's own MAC, which is what identifies REAC metal.

A box with no key — none detected, or one that has never enrolled — resolves to nothing and passes through without a boxId, which is the honest answer: it has no identity here yet.
