A /meters index entry is the strip's channel KEY — channelKey's "input/1", the one
spelling the whole codebase addresses a strip by — read back as the canonical id (a numeric
index, what a demand list and the row's own address codec hold). Eleven bytes a strip where an
id object was thirty-two. A key that names no strip of the console's vocabulary (an unknown
kind, a non-positive or fractional index, anything not a string) reads as nothing. Not
parseChannelKey: that one throws on a bad key and admits spellings that do not round-trip
(input/1e2), and an entry off the wire must refuse quietly and name exactly one strip.
