    Variable GAIN_DEFAULT_PROVENANCESConst

    GAIN_DEFAULT_PROVENANCES: readonly [
        "measured",
        "driver",
        "declared",
        "desk",
        "assumed",
        "operator",
    ] = ...

    HOW the desk knows a control's come-up value — the closed set, as VALUES, so a receiver can check a provenance that arrived over the wire against it (an internal spec §2).

    Declared HERE, with ControlLimit.default itself, rather than beside the gain that first needed it: the member is part of the travel vocabulary, and a vocabulary whose values live in one module and whose meaning lives in another is the split this file's own header exists to prevent. head-amp.ts re-exports the same binding, so there is one set and not two spellings.

    The order is the RESOLUTION order — a hardware measurement first, a driver's own declaration next, the house value DECLARED for that box, the desk's unity for a stage that is not a preamp, the ASSUMED mic default for a gain-declaring input nobody wrote one down for, and an operator override last because it is the only one that is not a fact about the equipment.

    declared and assumed carry the same NUMBER today and are two different claims: declared means somebody wrote this down for this box, assumed means nobody did. A gap is filled rather than refused (operator, 2026-09-07), so the word is the only thing that keeps the gap visible.
