WHERE a processor sits: the point whose segment it runs in, plus its sort among the others
in that segment.
sort is a REAL number, not an index. Dropping an FX between two others is then a single
write of one node's own sort key (the midpoint of its new neighbours) rather than a
renumbering of the whole segment — so a move is atomic, two surfaces moving different FX
never collide, and there is no intermediate state in which the arrangement is a lie.
