There is deliberately no fallback to a port name when a box cannot be resolved. Falling
back is precisely what mis-patched channel 3 (§1 of the spec): a name that still resolves
while meaning different hardware. On a live desk a silently wrong patch is worse than a
visible gap, so an unresolvable box yields absent and the channel stays declared, disabled,
and honest about what it wants.
A stereo endpoint resolves WHOLE: if either leg names an absent box the endpoint is absent,
rather than collapsing to a silently-mono channel nobody was told about.
