boxInput is 1-based, as printed on the box.
Returns undefined when the result is not a legal head-amp CH — an out-of-range input, or
a base+width that would run past 0x2f. It does NOT consult the audio fabric: an S-1608
based at 0x20 reaches CH 47 and that is correct.
